The Misconception of Multi-Level Marketing

Here’s an article I found about MLM that explains what exactly this business structure is and answers some questions most people have about it.  MLM has been around for some time and is perfectly legal.  Read this article from Woodridge Multi-level MarketingPortuguês do Brasil: Representação gráfica do ...

Have you ever wondered why people are so turned off at the mention of Multi-Level Marketing? Is it legal? Is it a pyramid? Who benefits the most? Where does the money flow? In this article we will examine basic differences between Multi-Level Marketing and a Corporate Structure.

Let’s take the corporate structure first. Almost all of us work in this type of hierarchy everyday. A CEO heads the corporation or company. Below him/her are upper management people i.e. Vice President, Controller, Senior Sales Exec…etc. Below them are middle management people i.e. Department Heads, Retail Directors, Consultants and various Supervisors.

Finally we reach the Sales Representatives, Customer Service Representatives, Stockers, Cashiers, Cleaners, Drivers, etc.

So who makes the most money in this type of structure?

If you were to draw a flowchart this, it would look like a “Pyramid” The CEO makes the most money as he/she sits at the top. Below them are a few upper management people, then more middle management, then most of the workers. It is the person at the “top” of this “pyramid” that makes the most money, because in this type of structure, you are paid based on “where you are” in the structure. So, how do you make more money here? The only ways you can truly increase your earnings are if someone in the structure is promoted, gets fired, dies, or quits. As a result, everyone in the structure can move up.

So…. Let’s take a look at a Network Marketing Structure and then compare. On the surface, both structures are mirror images of each other. BOTH look like a “Pyramid” structure. Flowchart it out again. An affiliate will sponsor someone, they sponsor more, they sponsor more…etc. But…who makes the money here? The worker at the top? Possibly, but most likely not. Here’s why:

Even though this structure looks identical to a corporate structure pyramid, in the MLM structure you get paid STRICTLY on what you produce and the work you do, not on where you are within the structure. Wouldn’t it seem fair that if you do more work, you should get paid more money? This structure is simply a structure of business owners. Pay is based ONLY on what you do, not your position within the network. This is what differs Network Marketing from a typical “Corporate Structure Job”.

In the MLM structure YOU are in control of your income. In the corporate world, someone else will always be in control of your income. Always!

5 Goal Setting Strategies for Your New Home Business

English: MICANOPY, Fla. (Aug 10, 2010) A Drug ...

Image via Wikipedia

Here is an article I found on WAHM.com about goal setting for home businesses.  I think this is a great article and there are plenty of other ones on this topic at that site.  Please be sure to click over and read the entire article to the end.  I promise it is good information, especially if you are just setting up your business, or are trying to get your business up off the ground. There are several goal setting articles just on this one page!  Good Luck!

________________________________________________________________

Starting a new business can be overwhelming, so it’s important to have goal setting strategies, to clarify what you want from your business and how you plan to get there. This includes both short- and long-term personal and professional goals.

1. Create Your Own Future

Where - and what - do you want to be in a year? Five? Ten? Write it down. Then work backward. How do you get there? What are your stopgaps? With whom do you need to network to make it happen? Update these lists frequently. Brainstorm with friends and business associates. Revisit your vision regularly. Try it on, like that blouse you wear for special occasions, to make sure it still feels right. Don’t be afraid to change the planned future if it no longer fits where you are, but remember: it’s yours to create as you please.

2. Plot Your Baby Steps

On your way to that future you’ve designed, you have to reach stepping stones. Create a list of people, places, functions, research and resources that you can and will access to arrive at each point along the way. Realize that each step has multiple paths leading to it. Envision as many of these paths as possible, and be open and willing to take any one of them at any time. All roads lead to Rome, as the saying goes.

3. Keep Your Eyes on the Prize

Discouragement, disappointment and your own version of failure will happen. Don’t let them stop you from getting where you want to be. When a construction crew works on a highway, they offer drivers a detour. Look at setbacks in your plan as simple detours, new and different ways to arrive at the destination you have set for yourself. For every lead that falls through, brainstorm five more. For every deadline missed, turn in projects three days early. Conversely, take time for yourself, too. For every contact made, every project completed on time, every lead generated, treat yourself somehow. It doesn’t have to cost money or be extravagant, but it should be something that brings you joy.

4. Imagine a World without Failure

All the usual clichés work as mental exercises. What would you do if you knew you couldn’t fail? Dream big. Include those dreams in your plans. You’ll never succeed at what you don’t try. All those inspirational posters that middle management puts in cubicles to inspire office workers, as corny as they are, have something going for them. It’s easy to…[read more]

7 Ways to Deal With Rejection Before It Happens

Here’s an interesting and useful article about rejection that I feel is appropriate to repost here.  This is from Manta, a great source of good, concise business information; check out the site when you have time.

—————————————————————————————————–

By Larry Prevost, ProspeX Sales Coach
A few weeks ago, I was in the Columbus office and overheard a conversation between an inside sales rep and his manager.

The rep was reviewing a phone conversation he had with one of his prospects, who happened to be a sales manager.

Actually, he described it more as a yelling session.

The sales manager told him that he didn’t appreciate being cold called and he didn’t want to hear from him again.

I’m sure no one has heard that one before!

Well, the conversation that the sales rep had with his manager was the same “lick your wounds” session that we all have in some form after coming off of a bad call. We tell ourselves that it’s not personal, don’t take the rejection personally, and that the person on the other end must have been tied up with something else.

We all have those calls. We stumble upon someone who is in a bad mood, in a meeting, or under the gun to complete a project.

And it isn’t constrained to making phone calls either. In addition to receiving cold call rejections, I’ve picked up my share of LinkedIn refusals, Twitter denials, email opt outs, Facebook unfriends, etc.

As Forrest Gump said, “It happens.” If you put yourself out there enough, regardless of the channel, you will run into a few people that won’t want to talk with you.

What we want are new behaviors and actions to minimize the rebuffs and maximize our real conversations with viable prospects. You do that by taking personal responsibility for the outcomes of your interactions.

Here are some ways to control the conversation and avoid rejection before it happens:

1. Always Know Whom You Are Calling.

When making B2B calls, this goes without saying. Before you pick up the phone, know the name of the person you are calling. If you don’t know, call the gatekeeper and ask… preferably with some tact and finesse! Or call after hours and plug into their voicemail system. Most individuals will leave a greeting that tells you exactly how to pronounce their name. With as much information available today, there’s no excuse for not knowing your contact’s name.

If you are making B2C calls, then you face some new challenges. Unlike a business where the direct dial number or extension is tied to a person, consumer phone numbers are associated with households where anyone can pick up the phone. Sometimes, you may not know the person you’re calling or the information you have may be incorrect.

In B2C calls, find out the name of the person who answered the phone and hold a conversation with them. Of course, you want to reach the target prospect as quickly as possible. However, there is nothing in the sales rulebook that says you need to be impolite and rude to anyone who is not your main contact.

Treat everyone you encounter as a real person and they’ll appreciate…[Read More]

The Truth About Internet Marketing & Succeeding Online

How many times have you heard the statistics that 97% of people fail while only 3%
of people actually succeed and earn a living in this industry? I’m pretty sure that
you’ve heard this over and over again, but you still may wonder how to position
yourself as part of the 3%.

When you take inventory of those that are successful, and tend to have a presence
online, and give you the impression that they are “everywhere”, you will notice a
few common denominators that may reveal how to become apart of the 3%.
I’ll share them with you today so you can begin to alter what you do and how you do
it, and eliminate your chances of being in the failing 97%!

1. They are Consistent in their marketing efforts.

One of the most important aspects of Marketing period, is being consistent.
It’s very hard to get people to take you seriously when they can’t predict
when you’ll show you or not.

Just like a child that expects a parent to be there to pick them up every day
after school, so to does your audience expect you to be there daily with the
information and pick up me up content and resources that keep them coming
back for more.

In order to sell people on your services or products, you must prove to them
that you are someone that they can rely on and can trust.

Major marketer have this skill down packed. You can probably assume that
they have a calendar for their business, with a list of daily and weekly
activities that they partake in to keep their marketing efforts alive.

If you want to begin performing like the 3%’ers, then you’ll want to begin
establishing a calendar of activities that you’ll commit to, and be sure to put
them in place!

2. They understand and know their audience, whom they’re marketing to
and what they want.

A disturbing known fact about the 97%’ers is that they have no clue who
they’re actually marketing to. They may take time to write articles, shoot
videos and write blog posts, but 9.9 times out of 10, if you were to ask them
who their target market is, they’ll probably decline to answer the question
because they simply don’t know!

Knowing your audience, knowing what their challenges are and how to
address them is critical if you truly plan on succeeding.

It makes your writing efforts so much easier and allows you to immediately
connect your offer with the needs your market has.

Before doing more marketing, take into consideration the following
questions:

Who is my target market?
What are they struggling with?
What is it that they want?
How can I give it to them?

3. They have a diverse marketing portfolio.

Using only one method to market your business is like posting an ad in a
newspaper, doing nothing else, and sitting back for months on end hoping
that your phone will ring.

You must get out there and begin using diverse marketing methods for your
business, incorporating things like Article Marketing, Video Marketing,
Writing Squidoo Lenses, Hubpages, Forum Marketing and of course Social
Media Marketing.

I will say that you don’t want to probably do them all, but pick 2-3 to start
out, while creating a consistent plan of action on how you’ll implement them
weekly, then begin adding one more as you’ve mastered the others, to gain
additional exposure from a new audience!

4. They outsource and delegate!

Outsourcing and delegating is soooo important to your business that I can’t
emphasis it enough. With so much to maintain in the Internet Marketing
world, one can grow weary and get burned out pretty quickly if they don’t get
help with those areas that are extremely time consuming and often very
challenging.

The 3%’ers have mastered the art of handing things over to people who are
more skilled and trained than they are. The key is in discovering what it is
that you do best, and what makes you money and focus solely on those things
while handing over the rest.

Outsourcing can be fairly inexpensive, sometimes even averaging around $2
per hour (depending on expertise and location of your contractor). Either
way, it’s more affordable than most people realize and should be factored
into your monthly expenses as a “necessary expense”.

To start out delegating the more important tasks that you may fear letting go,
you can start using Private Label Rights Writers who will create your content
for you while you have the freedom to put your name on it and take the
credit.

For the Internet Marketing & Network Marketing industry, a great place to
start is with the www.MLMPLRStore.com (http://bit.ly/rruwUJ), where
they provide articles, blog posts, auto-responder messages amongst so many
other content marketing tools, to help make your life easier while providing
high quality content.

The prices are inexpensive to start out with, you have no obligation and it’s a
great way to begin to free up your time to focus on more critical areas that
really need your attention.

As you can see, becoming apart of the 3%’ers isn’t that far out of reach. It just
takes you making a few small changes and tweaks to what you’ve been doing,
and you’ll discover that you’re well on your way to dominating your niche,
succeeding in your efforts while finally making a decent income doing it.

MLMs draw working class in tough times

Here’s an article I found at SDSU’s The Daily AZTEC.  This article just shows you that

MLM or multilevel marketing is gaining in popularity, especially now in the economic downturn.  Referral marketing happens everywhere, everyday.  Some people get paid for it, some do not.  It’s all a matter of how you look at the process.

Enjoy this article and be sure to visit the site and read all the comments.

For many, it has become nearly impossible to ignore the current economic situation.  Times are tough, with a vast number of people out of work and underpaid. So, it may come as no surprise that many people have started seeking unconventional ways to maintain a comfortable living.

A rapidly expanding business model called multilevel marketing, also known as network marketing, has garnered much controversy in recent years.

What is MLM?

MLM is a marketing strategy in which sales associates receive compensation, not only for personal sales but also for the sales of team members whom they have recruited. This can sometimes create a downline of distributors and a hierarchy with multiple levels of compensation. Typically, salespeople employ relationship referrals and word-of-mouth marketing to conduct and expand businesses.

MLM was introduced in 1945 by the California Vitamin Company, later known as Nutrilite. Although the strategy has changed throughout the years, with different companies offering unique incentives and compensation plans, the same basic principles can be found in all MLM companies.

Dominique Xardel, a European author and marketing professor, said there are similarities between direct selling and MLM.

According to Xardel, the terms “direct selling” and “network marketing” refer to a distribution system, while the term “multi-level marketing” describes a compensation plan.

The Direct Selling Association, of which about 200 companies are members, defines direct selling as “the sale of a consumer product or service, person-to-person, away from a fixed retail location, marketed through independent sales representatives.”

According to the DSA, an enormous variety of products and services are available for purchase through this business model, although direct selling is frequently associated with items such as cosmetics and wellness products.

Support for MLM

While the basics of MLM are fairly straightforward, the philosophies behind the business model are somewhat more complex. World-renowned author of the Rich Dad Poor Dad series, Robert Kiyosaki, delves into the world of MLM in his book “The Business of the 21st Century.” Kiyosaki is supports the business model, because he believes MLM directly generates wealth.

“Even more important than the quantity of money you make is the quality of money you make,” Kiyosaki wrote.

This is explained by examining a cashflow quadrant, which is comprised of four distinct sources of income.

The “E quadrant,” which represents the employed, is one in which most people reside. This is often considered to be the most accepted way of earning income.

However, according to Kiyosaki, job security is a thing of the past. Therefore, those in the “employed” mindset will never achieve true financial freedom, because they will always work for someone else. In other words, workers only get paid if and when they go to work.

The “S quadrant” represents those who are self-employed and small-business owners. This includes a range of occupations, from freelancers to doctors and attorneys. Kiyosaki references a poll conducted by the Fresno research firm Decipher that found, “Seventy-two percent of all adult Americans would rather work for themselves than for a job, and 67 percent think about quitting their jobs regularly.”

According to Kiyosaki, while this quadrant can be financially rewarding, it frequently binds business owners with extreme time commitments.

The “I quadrant” includes a very small percentage of the population; those who make the majority of their income through investments.

According to Kiyosaki, the “B quadrant”, which represents big-business owners, is the only way to create genuine wealth.

“Wealth is not the same thing as money,” he wrote. “Wealth is not measured by the size of income. Wealth is measured in time.”

By creating a team of workers, a business owner can create assets. Assets generate passive income, the type of income truly wealthy people typically have. Whether or not a big-business owner works on any given day, the owner still generates income, because of team efforts.

According to Kiyosaki, one of the greatest benefits of the MLM business model is the ability it provides for individuals to move into the B quadrant. All associates in legitimate MLM companies, regardless of level or position, are able to hire a team of workers, which provides the potential for enormous financial growth. The passive-income potential of MLM constitutes an immense portion of its popularity.

Some MLM companies offer other incentives as well, including all-expense paid vacations and residual income.

According to Kiyosaki, aside from the financial benefits and time freedom associated with MLM, other proficiencies include personal development, real-world business education, a circle of friends with the same dreams and values, leadership skills, a duplicable business and the power of creating personal networks.

The success of MLM has been written about in other publications, such as Forbes, Fortune, Newsweek, TIME, USA Today and The New York Times, to name a few.

“Today, network marketing is recognized by many experts and accomplished business people as one of the fastest-growing business models in the world,” Kiyosaki wrote.

Criticism of MLM

Critics compare the business model to illegal pyramid, or “Ponzi,” schemes with expensive start-up costs and emphasis on recruitment of lower-tiered salespeople, rather than actual sales. Many MLMs require salespeople to purchase the company’s products, allowing potential exploitation of personal relationships and exaggerated compensation schemes.

MLM has also been criticized for implementing cult-like techniques in order to enhance member enthusiasm and devotion to the company.

The U.S. Federal Trade Commission has said people should “steer clear of multilevel marketing plans that pay commissions for recruiting new distributors. They’re actually illegal pyramid schemes.”

According to writer Scott Allen, the best way to determine if a company is a pyramid scheme is to look at exactly how the money is made.

“The money is all being made off of signing up other people, with little or no real product ever being delivered,” Allen wrote. “But in spite of whatever perceptions people may have, the fact is that Amway, Excel, PrePaid Legal and many others have sold millions upon millions of dollars of products to happy customers, many of whom are not also reps.”

Joining The One24 Business Opportunity A Good Idea?

Posted by: Clint Schubert on: July 29th, 2011

A Critical Review Of The One24 Business Opportunity.

The One24 business opportunity has recently been a popular choice for people seeking a home based business or network marketing opportunity. One24 is not your ordinary nutritional company,  and this One24 review will explain what makes it different and why so many people are talking about it.

Who is One24?

Joining The One24 Business Opportunity A Good Idea? The owner of One24 is one of the most respected and well known individuals in the MLM industry. Mark Seyforth was actually one of the creators of a small health and wellness company called Herbalife. For those of you who are new to the network marketing industry,  Herbalife is one of the largest and most successful network marketing companies ever to exist.

Mark understands the business and knows that a nutritional based company can be very profitable,  even in a down economy. People still have a budget for nutritional products and are comfortable spending money on their health.

This business model is why One24 has had success marketing an affordable nutritional product called NatraBurst.

One24 NatraBurst

One24 has a unique product that everyone is talking about. NatraBurst is the only product One24 currently markets. Its designed to improve your overall health by providing a special formulated blend of “super foods”. NatraBurst is a powder that you can mix with just about anything from water,  juice or even food.

Here is a list of some of the foods found in NatraBurst:

  • Brown Rice Protein
  • Barley Grass
  • Chlorella
  • Spirulina
  • Wheat Grass
  • Carrot
  • Broccoli
  • Cauliflower
  • Spinach
  • Beat
  • Aloe Vera
  • Tumeric
  • Cilantro
  • Mangosteen
  • Acerola Berry
  • Red Beat Root
  • Pomegranate
  • Green Tea Extract
  • Quercitin
  • Resveratrol
  • Grape Seed Extract
  • Blueberry
  • Tomato
  • Fibers
  • Enzymes
  • Probiotics

What Makes The One24 Business Different?

There are 2 main reasons that make the One24 business opportunity different than most. First,  it is free to join. The only cost in becoming a distributor for One24 is the actual cost of the product,  which is $60 for a month’s supply. Secondly,  you are only allowed to recruit 1 person each month. The theory is,  after 24 months,  you should have personally recruited 24 people into your One24 business;  hence the name One24.

You earn a residual income of $1.50 per monthly auto-ship customer 12 levels deep.  Obviously,  you are not going to make a lot of money when you first start out,  but the income potential does get very exciting if you are able to follow the 24 month plan.

Success With The One24 Business

Joining The One24 Business Opportunity A Good Idea? There are basically 2 things you need to do if you want to have success with One24. First,  you need to believe in the product and learn how to share it with others. In network marketing,  the product should be the focus. People are leery about the mlm industry and most are skeptical about a product they can’t buy at Walmart or any other major retailer. Unfortunately,  this is the difficult thing about being a network marketing distributor. In order to make money with your One24 business,  you have to learn how to overcome this obstacle and generate sales.

Secondly,  you have to be able to recruit people. Convincing them they can make money with the One24 business opportunity is not easy. On top of that,  you are only allowed to recruit 1 person each month,  so sometimes there might be a waiting list if you’ve already sponsored someone for that month.

I suggest you learn how to market your One24 business online using a marketing strategy called Attraction Marketing.  It allows you to attract people to you and your business instead of you chasing people,  talking to friends and family,  cold calling or even talking to strangers.

To learn more about marketing your One24 business online and how to generate leads I would check out this site. It’s considered to be the best MLM training site on the internet and can have dramatic results on  your business.

You Deserve Success,

Entrepreneur Tips for a Successful Home-Based Business

Beginning business people are always on the hunt for useful tips about starting a home-based business. More and more people now are interested in creating a home based business because of the endless opportunities available online and they want to know what to expect and what working at home entails.

English: Home business ideas for 2011.

Image via Wikipedia

With the internet, anyone can become an entrepreneur. An online home-based business requires initial investment, so people tend to think they can easily make a fortune out of it. But even an online business requires careful thought and consideration. You will need to exert great effort and time to make it a success.

Some of the business opportunities online include affiliate marketing, blogging, copywriting, and many others. By researching online, you can find high-profit earning business opportunities.  But, beware the scammers.  There still is no such thing as “something for nothing” despite all the claims to the contrary.  The old adage still holds true that if something appears too good to be true that is because it is.
For those people who are busy taking care of their families and for those that don’t have a professional career, a home-based business may be the answer. Many stay at home mothers run an online business to help the family pay bills or to provide their family with the lucrative tax breaks a home business can provide.

Here are some helpful tips that you can use in running your home-based business:

1. No man is an island. Have you heard of that famous cliché? That’s specifically true for entrepreneurs. You’re the boss of your business but that doesn’t mean that you wi

ll not need any support. You have to learn more about your target market so that you can address its needs accordingly. You can contact professional organizations if you like. Through research, you can learn a lot.  You can find forums to join where you can connect with others working in the same field and at home.  Building up a support system is really a key concept to success in a home based business.

2.You will not know everything you need to know all at once. You will need to get some proper training at running your home-based business. You need to familiarize yourself with record keeping, tax deductions, and basic accounting procedures.  Through a series of trainings, you will know more about running your online business especially if you’re a beginner in the field. Most of these trainings are available to you free of charge at the SBA in your area.
3. Never start a business that you know nothing about. Training  can be a good place to start, but experience in the field is required to make your business a success. To run your home-based business smoothly, you need to be an expert. Continue to learn as much as possible. Seek out information online, offline, attend seminars, etc.  You should never stop learning about your business.  Networking at events is always a great way to learn more about your industry.

4. Never lose hope. Always have self confidence. Just as a baby learns the basics, so will you have to start at the beginning.  Feel confident that you can get through the initial steps and learn about your chosen business idea.  You must always be patient and don’t give up easily especially if you’re encountering certain difficulties and problems. By working hard, you can get the exact results that you want. Huge results don’t come in an instant. You must always trust your training, your business plans, and most especially, yourself.

5.  Have a plan.  Writing a business plan can be as simple or as complicated as you want to make it.  It is imperative that you have a written plan and that you review that plan regularly so you can see your progress and stay on track as your business begins to grow.  Many home businesses fail because of a lack of planning.  Don’t let yours be one of them.
These are some tips that you can make use it making your home-based business a success. There are many tips that you can find on the internet but these five tips are among the best and most effective. Many expert entrepreneurs can attest to that. If you want, you can join entrepreneur workshops so that you can meet other entrepreneurs and learn more about their businesses.

As the number of entrepreneur home-based businesses increases, you must be able to compete with other businesses. This is the only way to be successful. Incorporate these helpful tips in starting your online business and soon enough, you can prove if it’s effective or not. You can earn huge profits if you start your business right.
